Road rage leads to a fistfight, flying chairs and blood at Denny’s restaurant on March 25.

Douglas Police entered the restaurant at about midnight and found blood on the floor, blood on several chairs, tables, rug and walls inside the restaurant.

The incident started when four individuals – Oscar Elias, 9-13-81; Sergio Chavez, 6-20-81; Enrique Chavez, 2-1-85; and Carlos Elias, 9-13-81 – were approached by two other men –George Vega, 4-2-71; and Marcos Aguilar, 6-9-69 – over reportedly cutting them off as they were leaving Bushmasters.

One of the males asked one of the four at the table who was driving a certain vehicle and then the fight began among the individuals. According to Night Shift Manager Martha Gonzalez, all six men were throwing punches, and then some of the individuals began throwing chairs.

As soon as the Douglas Police was called, Vega and Aguilar attempted to leave the Denny’s, but Gonzalez was able to stop them long enough for police to arrive.

One witness said that Vega threw the first punch at Oscar Elias, striking him in the face. That is when the big fight began.

Sergio Chavez sustained injuries to his face.

Since Vega and Aguilar were the aggressors in the incident, they were both arrested for assault and disorderly conduct against Elias and disorderly conduct and criminal damage against Denny’s

Also at the scene was Robert Vega, who said he stayed in the car the entire time, and could not provide any additional information.

Both Robert Vega and Oscar Elias work for the Douglas Fire Department and the incident is still under investigation by the city.

" There is brotherhood among the Firefighters. They will always back each other up in a dangereous siduation and will always be there for the community. But it only takes one bad apples to spread the cancer. When a person has a bad rept. that bad rept. will always him. Remember one Vega stayed outside knowing what was going to happen while the other Vega and Aguilar did thier thing. Guess who could have stopped this. ????? "

" Mr. Editor, you sure do know how to write a story. It is amazing how you use selective journalism to sell a once a week newspaper. How come stories like a juvenile caught assaulting another juvenile was never reported in your paper, it was shown on YOU TUBE! Do you remember? I sure wish you would use more tack and get the correct facts before you publish you paper. Boy, Thank God living out of Douglas! "

" Hey Jay Dee get a copy of the police report, it is public information. But remember it is who threw the first blow. Vega & Aguilar already have history for doing this kinda stuff. As for the other Vega, you might have not lighted the match but your are as guiltly for not turning off the fire. Not Good at all. "

At least there was no stabbings, like what seems to happen with the gangs "

Jay Dee wrote on Apr 8, 2009 11:33 PM:

" Under my understanding, It was Aguilar who started the fight and not Vega, maybe the Dispatch can look further into this account, because it's not fair to blame one person for the fight, when the other started it.. I wish the dispatch would get it right. But once again, they make up the story. "
