Gladys Pearl (Knight) Ziede was born in El Paso Texas, June 26, 1924, to Paul Thomas Knight and Josephine Ruth Medinger.  Because of her father’s job with Southern Pacific Railroad, the family lived in several Arizona towns, including Warren, Bisbee and Douglas.

Jose C. Robles

Jose C. Robles passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Southeast Arizona Medical Center.  Jose was born in Pirtleville, Arizona on March 1, 1910 to Raphael and Refugio C. Robles.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years Kitty, his parents and brother, Rafael.  He is survived by his son, Joe (Grace) Robles, daughters, Gloria Santa Cruz and Sylvia (Reyes) Vasquez, 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.   Jose retired from Phelps Dodge Smelter after 45 years.  He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed planting his vegetable garden every year.   He was a very dedicated and loving Husband, Father, Tata and Friend.

Longtime Elfrida resident Lucina Zamudio passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee, Arizona.  Lucina was born March 4, 1914 in Sahuaripa , Sonora,  Mexico.

Margarita Valenzuela died at home Thursday morning May 21, 2009 in Douglas, Arizona.  Margarita was born in Naco, Arizona, and raised in Pirtleville, by her parents Serafina and Pánfilo Varela.  As the oldest of nine children, Margarita assumed the role of mother at a very early age.

Francisco “Cisco” Jesus Carranza went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 15, 2009. Preceding him in death are his grandfathers Hector R. Leon and Jesus M. Carranza. Surviving are his parents Jesus F. Carranza and Lorenia L. and sister Kendall Lee Carranza of Douglas. Also surviving Cisco are his grandmothers Lorenza F. Leon and Frances G. Carranza as well as many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Artemisa (Micha) Merino Somoza passed away May 15,  2009 at Villa Maria Nursing Facility in Tucson where she temporarily resided with her husband, Ernesto.  Artemisa was born in Pitaicachi, Sonora, Mexico to Ramona and Jose Maria Merino.

Betty Rose Ruterman

Betty Rose Ruterman was born on April 23, 1929 and passed away on May 8, 2009. Betty was born in Cortez, Colorado the daughter and only child of William A. Ogle and Anna B. (Morelock) Ogle. She grew up in Durango, Colorado where she graduated from high school in May of 1947.
