DHS golfer competes at NJCAA National tourney

OWENS CROSSROADS, Ala. – A former DHS golfer helped the Pima Community College men’s golf team tie for 20th place overall at the 2009 NJCAA National Tournament.


As a team, the Aztecs finished with a four-round score of 1258 (318, 301, 317, 322), which was 73 strokes behind tournament co-champions McClennan Community College and New Mexico Junior College.

Jared Baldwin, a Marana Mountain View High grad, had the best overall finish for the Aztecs as he had a four-day total of 311, (75, 76, 81, 79) and finished  62nd overall.

Tom Callahan, of Sierra Vista finished with a total score of 313 (75, 74, 78, 86), which left him tied for 74th place.

Eric Briggs from Sahuarita was the third Aztec in the standings as he finished tied for 82nd at 317 (84, 75, 83, 75).

Callahan’s Buena teammate Cody Patterson shot a  318 (84, 76, 76, 82) and Steve Valenzuela of Douglas fired a 331 (86, 77, 82, 86).
