DPS to have several DUI checkpoints

This year the Fourth of July falls on a Saturday. Many will be traveling to visit family in other areas of the state or other areas of the country.


In response to heavier than normal traffic, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) will step up their efforts to ensure the safety of the motoring public on our state highways. DPS officers will take part in various DUI task forces throughout the state in an effort to crack down on impaired drivers.

DPS also wants the motoring public to be aware that there will be various Fourth of July fireworks programs visible from interstates, freeways and highways in Arizona. While they are exciting to watch in designated locations, they can be extremely distracting to motorists and very dangerous to view from roadways. We urge all drivers to pay attention to their driving and not the fireworks. Also, we remind drivers that the emergency lanes on the side of the highway are for emergencies.
