On Tuesday, U.S. Border Patrol agents in Douglas found an unresponsive male in a drainage pipe, the agency reported Friday. The pipe is the main water drainage pipe for the city of Douglas, and is about 5 feet wide.

Agents coordinated efforts with the Douglas fire and police departments to extract the man.

He was found to be alive but in need of medical attention. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Upon release, the man was to be taken to a Border Patrol station for further processing, officials said.

On Wednesday, Phoenix police fielded a call from a Phoenix man who said family members were lost southwest of Gila Bend and needed medical help after walking for days without water.

The lost walkers relayed how they could see a highway and gave an additional description of the area.

Tucson sector Border Patrol search and rescue agents to whom the call was transferred, and a National Guard helicopter launched a search and discovered the group early Thursday.
