Linda Gomez, founder and organizer of the Douglas Run/Walk for the Cure has announced she will be having the event again this year after taking last year off.

Gomez said this years event will be held Nov. 26 at the Airport Park.

Gomez is encouraging local residents to “save the date” and make plans to take part in this worthwhile event.

To help with publicity Gomez has created a website that is loaded with information, pictures, previous articles and testimonials from people who have been involved with the event over the years. The site can be found at douglasturkeytrot.org.

“Through Douglas Turkey Trot we have been able to make a positive impact on cancer patients living in Douglas and our work is only possible by your generous donations,” Gomez says on her website. “Your financial support can help make a positive difference in the lives of these cancer patients.  Every dollar that is given stays in Douglas to help cancer patients during their treatment.”

There will be a 5K competitive run; 1 mile competitive run (ages 9 to 12); 400 meter competitive run (ages 5 to 8); 40 yard run (ages 2 to 4) and a 5K fun walk.

Hickman Family Farms in Buckeye, AZ will be providing a complimentary breakfast that day for all participants. A variety of breakfast burritos will also be prepared by Food City.  Shamrock Farms will be providing breakfast drinks and the local 4-H groups will serve baked goods.

“There are many ways to participate in the Douglas Turkey Trot,” Gomez said. “If you can help financially, please complete the commitment form and mail it to the address mentioned (in the website).  Your contribution is tax-deductible.  We appreciate your consideration of our friends and family with cancer here in Douglas, Arizona.”

Gomez is a nine-year cancer survivor. She organized the first Douglas Run/Walk for the Cure in 2000 and has aided countless men and women in Douglas over the years. The one stipulation is that all of the funds are for Douglas residents.
