U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers working at the Douglas POE arrested two Phoenix women for attempting to smuggle two small children into the United States.

On Saturday, July 4, in the early morning hours, CBP officers were screening traffic when they came in contact with two Phoenix women who were accompanied by two small children. CBP Officers became suspicious.

Further investigation revealed that the two women were no relation to the children and were attempting to smuggle them into the United States.

The children were identified as a 7-year-old girl and her little 1-year-old brother, both Mexican Nationals. The parents of the two young siblings were located and reunited with their children.

CBP Officers seized the vehicle. The two Phoenix women were taken into custody for further investigation.

A criminal complaint is simply the method by which a person is charged with criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt.  An individual is presumed innocent until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt
