U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they seized more than 400 pounds of marijuana from 46 year-old man.

On Saturday, July 10, at a little past midnight, CBP Officers at the Douglas Port of Entry were screening travelers when they came in contact with a 46-year-old man driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero.

The man was identified as a resident of Douglas. Customs did not provide the identification of the man stopped to the Douglas Dispatch.

During a routine interview the CBP Officers became suspicious and asked the man to open the trunk of his Oldsmobile. When the trunk was opened, many packages of marijuana could be seen. The total weight of marijuana was more than 400 pounds with an estimated street value of $1 million.

CBP Officers seized the Oldsmobile and marijuana. The Douglas man was turned over to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
