The Douglas Youth Football League will hold another registration this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Douglas Wal-Mart. The registration fee is $60 for the first kid and $55 for each additional child.

An initial registration was held this past weekend and nine kids signed up. New kids to the league must bring a copy of their birth certificate.

DYFL president Ken Nelson said there will also be a public meeting this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Douglas Noon Lions Club on Ninth Street.

Another public meeting will be held Aug. 1 at 3 p.m. at the Huber Junior High Cafeteria.

Nelson is also working to try and get the equipment that was issued last year but not returned back in time for the new season.

Any football player or cheerleader who still has their uniform from last year may return it by calling 895-2663 to arrange for a pickup. They may also bring it to registration.

Practice will start in August with the season opener set for Sept. 12.

Anyone interested in getting involved in the league is invited to do so but all volunteers must pass an initial background check.

The 2009 DYFL board is as follows: Ken Nelson – President, Eric Cazares – Vice President, Sandee Nelson – Secretary, Victor Varela – Treasurer, League coordinators are Trisha Maldonado (cheerleaders) and Florencio Lopez (football). At league board members are Carlos Lamadrid, Eddie Tevizo, Celena Estrella and Julie Morales.
