Border Patrol agents in the region were assaulted numerous times in the past few days, including one assigned to the Douglas station, authorities said.

On Sunday, an agent working east of the Douglas port of entry near the international boundary fence and Airport Road responded to assist other agents. An unknown individual in Mexico threw a rock, shattering the windshield of the vehicle, authorities said. The agent was not injured.

On Friday night, agents assigned to the Nogales station were assaulted by rock throwers from Mexico during two incidents. The vehicles were damaged.

The first Nogales incident occurred east of the DeConcini port of entry when an agent responded to several individuals attempting to illegally enter the U.S., the patrol said. Upon his arrival, rocks were thrown at him from Mexico.

In the other Nogales incident, an agent working west of town was assaulted while patrolling along the border with Mexico. The agent was struck by a rock, suffering a minor injury to his left forearm.

On Monday, agents assigned to the Nogales station were assaulted near the port of entry in two more incidents.

The first incident occurred just east of the port when two people from Mexico threw rocks at the agent, striking his vehicle twice. No injuries or damage were reported.

The second incident took place west of the port of entry while an agent responded to a report of smuggling. Upon arriving, the agent was assaulted with rocks being thrown from Mexico. No injuries or damage were reported.

No apprehensions were made during any of these incidents.

In the first 10 months of fiscal year 2009, officials at the Tucson sector have recorded more than 171 assaults on agents.
