The Fifth Annual Portal Pie Festival will be dedicated to Janet Gee who each year gave unstinting time and energy to make this fundraiser succeed, even after she was diagnosed with terminal illness. Jan never grudged that her son< Jeff Gee, Portal Resue’s longtime Emergency Medical Services Chief, continued serving the community through her months of sickness.Beloved from the Peloncillos to the Chiricahuas, she was a brave lady with a big heart.

The Festival will be held Saturday, September 5, from 12:00 to 2:00 New Mexico time, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Arizona time, at the Rodeo Community Center just off Highway 80.

Feast on your choice of over a hundred pies such as luscious Key Lime, tangy Lemon Meringue, Raisin, various kinds of apple pie, including strudel, and many other delicious temptations. For a complete meal, have some quiche, pizza, or savory spinach-feta pie.  At $2 a slice, you can indulge. Add ice  cream for a dollar. Take home a whole pie for $12. It’s an easy way to get your Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie  in the freezer early.

Portal Rescue is an all-volunteer organization that serves the Rodeo-Portal area for both fire and  medical emergencies. Maintaining and insuring EMS and Fire-fighting vehicles is costly. So are equipment and ongoing training. The service receives very little outside funding. Last year’s  profit of $1854 helped keep this organization operating.

With your help, this year might surpass that. If  you would like to donate pies or cash or help, or if you have questions, call Gerry Hernbrode at 520-558-2330 or Debbie Andbinder at 520-0980.
