After years of waiting, the opening of a new hotel may only be six weeks or less away. The projected finish date is the end of  September for the 50 plus room hotel. By the ned of this week, most of the carpet and tile should be laid in the rooms. The contractor was still awaiting delivery of doors and accessories (vanities, hair dryers, etc) to finish the rooms, Today, they were working on the exterior swimming pool and spa to the read of the facility.

" Does anyone actually know when the hotel will finally open? It's been under construction for several months and no results. I can't wait to book a room! I really dislike Motel 6 due to their prices and old rooms. "

" The Best Western is the best thing Douglas has built in years! FINALLY a decent hotel in that city. I've been traveling to Douglas/Agua Prieta my whole life. This will hopefully create more jobs and business for Douglas. When I was a kid, I recall traveling from L.A. to Douglas on the train and later on the Grayhound - none of this is around anymore. We need Douglas to be a more traveler friendly city again. "

" All this hotel is going to do is shut down motel 6. If motel 6 survives then this one will shut down in the near future. This town has nothing to pull in tourists. What is keeping the existing motel open? People coming to visit prisoners on the weekend, soldiers, and construction companies that have their workers stay on the job site during the week. Douglas should be named
Thereusedtobe, because there used to be a Mcdonalds there, a Kmart there, a Burger King there, a Circle K there, and soon a motel there! "

" The Best Western will finally give business people a place to stay while visiting douglas. What happen to the furniture store that wanted to bring jobs to Douglas? Or the Hampton Inn that wanted to build next to the Best Western Inn. I hope it was not the new mayor, telling them to build on Kings Highway. "

" As for former resident of D-town the call center was a start. I don't understand WTF's poor attitude. Its counterproductive. First, there is no money here b/c there's no industry. One reason - our downtown is a disaster zone. A bunch of broken down shacks…sorry – “historical buildings.” Our downtown presents a decaying, rundown image to companies who might be considering Douglas. Don’t forget those companies will need to attract skilled labor. Right now, the downtown’s an obstacle to that. Holiday Inn is clean and astatically pleasing. I give them credit. And yet some criticize. Lastly, so Holiday Inn built a hotel in Douglas...what's it to you? Just wish them well and hope for the best. New construction often spurs more new construction – why wish them anything BUT success? "

" OK, let's put this in the hand of the illustrious people of D-Town. How much money do you think this hotel will bring to your town? How much money do you think it will take away for your D-Town. Put it into perspective.... Now, the Call-Center was a great idea to bring revenue into the town. How well do you think this hotel will do all-year round... Maybe people should give more thought to enconmic growth instead of ' how much money can I squeeze out of this town', which the town is notoriuos for attracting these types of canidates. "

" I say - good...make that great! We need it. We need industry more. City needs to offer incentives like they do in other places. "

" I think it’s great. Sadly, there's a reason why Douglas remains a small town...its b/c of the mindsets and attitudes of people like "WTF" - typical. A business takes a chance and some mock it. What reason do we give our kids to return to this area? Zero! Have you read of the growth at other ports of entry – its exploding. Douglas is behind. "

I vote for no more mushrooms growing from the ceiling in our historic building! "
