Rafaela Pinedo Calderon

Mrs. Rafaela P. Calderon, longtime Douglas resident, went to be with her husband and her Lord on Friday, August 28, 2009.  


Rafaela was born April 4, 1914 in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico to Agapito and Jacinta Pinedo. On July 26, 1933 Rafaela married her late husband Edward B. Calderon. They were married for 67 years until his death in March 2001.  

She is also preceded in death by her brother Manuel Pinedo, sisters Jesusita Carlos and Josefa Arvizu, grandson Jim Calderon and great granddaughter Seyla Calderon.  She is survived by her eight children, Angie Lugo, Joe (Gerri) Calderon, Eddie Jr. (Karen) Calderon, Mary (George) Grajeda, Robert (Cindy) Calderon, Esther (Hector) Gil, Helen Corcetti and John (Maureen) Calderon.Rafaela is also survived by her 27 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews and her brother-in-law Ben Calderon of Colton, California. 

Rafaela enjoyed a long and happy life. She always loved having people stop by to visit.  She was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Church. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. 

A Rosary for Rafaela was recited at 7:00 pm on Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 also at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Arnold Noriega officiating.  Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.

 Pallbearers who served were John G. Calderon, Robert Calderon, Eddie J. Calderon, John J. Calderon, Joe G. Calderon, Chencho Pinedo, Rob Corcetti and Hector Lugo.  Honorary Pallbearers were her Children, Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren, Family and Friends.
