BP seizes $812,000 in drugs

TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol Agents from the Tucson Sector continue to be effective in the detection and seizure of large amounts of marijuana.  The increasing efforts to secure our nation’s borders add to significant gains in narcotics seizures.


On Tuesday, August 4, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Douglas Border Patrol Station were responding to possible illegal activity near an abandoned residence known for harboring illegal aliens.  At the residence agents encountered a male subject driving a vehicle containing several bundles of marijuana.  The driver a Mexican national illegally present in the United States was place under arrest.  A subsequent search of the abandoned residence produced more bundles of marijuana.  A total of 44 bundles of marijuana were seized weighing approximately 1016 pounds with an estimated street value of $812,800.

The male Mexican National was transported to the Border Patrol Station for further processing.

The U. S. Border Patrol is constantly combating to maintain operational control of America’s borders. From October 1, 2008 to July 31, 2009, the Tucson Sector Border Patrol has seized over 1,060,000 pounds of marijuana compared to 720,121 pounds of marijuana at the same time last year.
