A Douglas family is asking for the communities support as they try to raise money to help cover funeral expenses following the death of one of their loved ones.

Guillermo Gutierrez, 15, a sophomore at Douglas High School, died Aug. 7 in Tucson from injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle accident in Agua Prieta Aug. 2.

Family members say Gutierrez was driving along a Agua Prieta road when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to roll.

Two other passengers in the vehicle, both cousins to Gutierrez, were not seriously injured in the accident suffering minor bumps and bruises.

Gutierrez was injured seriously enough he was taken to a hospital in Tucson where he died five days later.

Family members say some of Gutierrez’ organs were donated to the Arizona Organ Donor program in an effort to assist those in need of an organ transplant.

A car wash benefit was held Sunday at Carl’s Jr’s to help with funeral expenses and a carne asada benefit is set for this Saturday from 11-3:30 at the El Vecino located at 703 W. Irvine in Pirtleville,

Cost is $6 per plate.

There will be a public visitation this Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. at the Adair Funeral Home on Ninth Street.

There will be another viewing, funeral followed by the burial later this week in Agua Prieta.

Gutierrez was preceded in death by his father Guillermo Sr. He is survived by his mother Lorena Gutierrez; sisters Sylvia and Violet Gutierrez and brother Alex (Karla) Segura.

Anyone wanting to make a donation or help with the carne asada may call 234-0404 or 236-3012.
