Douglas Masonic lodge making a difference

For months one of Mt.Moriah’s very own members and his spouse took on a special project on themselves in an effort to help Douglas.

The project was one that was geared in collecting from lodge members in order to help the Douglas  community.

It all started with an idea to give back to the Douglas community and it grew into a much larger program than expected.

Allen Walker, a member of the Douglas Masonic lodge and his wife, Heather Walker, wanted to start up a program where they could collect food for families in the Douglas community and help the needy at the same time.  They hit the ground running with their idea of collecting non-perishable food items with no idea just how it was going to go.

Understanding the economy and how it’s suffering did little to stop them from accomplishing their mission to get food to those that are suffering.

As they collected food items from the Masonic lodge they also collected money to help purchase non-perishable food items.

That money helped out tremendously. It enabled Allen and Heather to shop for food items and build a much larger food inventory.

With the money collected they were able to purchase baby food and baby items which added to the listed of needed items.  The ending project tallied more than $500 of food items which were divided into two parts.

One of the recipients of the box of food was the House of Hope.  At the time the delivery of food items were delivered to the House of Hope there were six mothers and eight children.

When the delivery was made the Masonic lodge held a special CHIP event for them helping the mothers even more.

The Child Identification Program helps parents protect their kids even more by creating a file of information for them with a photo, video, and digital fingerprints and a DNA kit that comes with the kit, all of this in an effort to help keep the women and their children safe.  The Mt.Moriah lodge has worked with the House of Hope for many years, these program are a few ways they continue to help them while keeping the community safe.
