Ken Cormier is back as coach and as an employee of the Douglas Unified School District.

Cormier is now what is being called a “new teacher induction coach” which helps the 52 new teachers adjust to their role in the classroom.
Superintendent Earl Pettit said there were always plans to have two of these “coaches,” but summer funding only allowed for the hiring of one.
New Title I funding became available in August, allowing the district to offer the position to Cormier.
“I’m delighted to be back as soccer coach,” Cormier said. “I’m also excited about my new position. This will be a new experience for me. I looking forward to helping the new teachers adapt to their role as teachers.”
Cormier started work Sept. 2 and was still learning some of the responsibilities of his new position when the interview with the Douglas Dispatch was done
Cormier has taught only at the high school the last 20 plus years. Now with his new job he’ll be bouncing around from school to school assisting Jana Selchow, the programs coordinator.
“I’ll be meeting with new teachers, observing them and seeing how they’re adjusting in their first year of teaching,” he said. “The whole purpose of the program is to trying to retain as many good, new teachers as we can and cut down on the turnover.”
Cormier has been involved previously with personal training and development many years ago and some additional training on his part will need to take place.
Cormier’s resignation as head soccer coach stemmed from the fact he was not offered a teaching contract this year. He had retired from teaching two years ago and was working under the E.S.I. program. Teachers in that program basically work year to year with no guarantees they will have a job the following year. This past summer a new teacher was hired to take Cormier's spot in the business department at Douglas High School.
Cormier’s resignation garnered state wide press and loads of community support.
“It just overwhelmed me,” he said. “I know how busy peoples lives are and to take the time to genuinely get involved of working to find a solution is deeply appreciated. … It makes all the years of things I’ve tried to do here worthwhile.”
Cormier says this experience has also given him a new sense of appreciation for what he really loves to do and that’s coaching and teaching.
“Often times we take things for granted,” he said. “This experience has helped me develop a new sense of appreciation.”
Cormier has communicated with most of his players that he and his assistant coaches Alphonso Romero, Victor Ramos and volunteer assistant Carlos Duarte have returned to the team and that open field begins next week and practice for the defending state champs begins Nov.2.
Cormier says he has no hard feelings towards what has happened throughout the course of this ordeal.
“I’ve lived life long enough to understand things happen in life, some good, some bad and it's what you do with the bad that determine success,” he said. “Even going through this there was no feelings of ill will towards anyone. … There was disappointment. I’ve always believed God doesn’t close one door without opening another. … I’m just so delighted that the door that opened allowed me to stay in this district and continue coaching these kids.”

And to move up divisions: Hasn't Doulas beat Buena in Soccer? I think so!!
And for the reasons the Feds don't want to live in Douglas... it is because the local cops don't put up with their drunken, brawling, speeding around, and holier than thou attitude. No one is above the law in Douglas. There is a new Chief in town!! "

What lesson has been learned here? Whine and you get your way? It is a sad state of affairs when someone uses their position as the head coach to get their way? Since when does a person who rresign their job as head coach get their job back? Did he interview? My understanding is that interviews took place and an offer was made to new teacher in the district? If this is true, why would the new teacher want to stay in a corrupt district such as this. I for one will fulfill my contract, as any honorable person would do, and move on. I will no longer put up with the sad state of affairs.
Cormier states he loves to coach? Why did you retire? Well, at least now Douglas will start recruiting ids agao nfrom AP to play soccer. "
