City to begin cracking down on weeds

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 5:29 PM MDT

Rainy season is almost over, and we are left with an overgrowth of weeds.  As a friendly reminder, the Douglas Code Enforcement Officers want to remind you as that as outlined in Section 8.32 and 8.16 of the Douglas Municipal Code, we as citizens of Douglas are required to keep our properties clean and free of weeds, not only to keep our city clean but to keep it safe as dry weeds presents a Fire Hazard.

Weeds are easier to cut and pull when the soil is moist.  Pulling the weeds before they flower and seed will lessen the chances of them germinating and flourishing in the future.

Code Enforcement Officers have begun to issue notices to residents regarding weeds and property maintenance.  If you have not received a notice as of yet, and you see that you have weeds in your yard or other nuisance violations such as; un-screened storage of personal property, inoperable vehicles in your yard or on the street, or weeds and trash in the City’s public right’s of way (the areas between your property line and curb/edge of pavement) which includes but it is not limited to the front or side of your property and the alleyways behind your property, we respectfully ask that you get these areas cleaned before any enforcement action is taken.

If you have any questions or require any additional information as it pertains to the City’s Code Enforcement efforts, please contact the Community Development Department at 417-7314 for the area encompassed by International Street to 11th Street and 417-7311 for the area encompassed by 11th Street and 23rd Street.  Please stop by City Hall, Community Development Department for a copy of the City’s Municipal Code, Public Nuisance Section.
