Anita Barraza Gonzales will be joining select company on September 21 when she turns 100 years old.

Born in Teonadepa, Sonora, Mexico, and grew up on Rancho El Pajarito.

She moved to Agua Prieta after marrying Nicolas Gonzales in 1932.

The couple lived in Agua Prieta for more than 20 years before moving to Douglas in 1963.

Gonzales has a proud legacy of 11 children, 39 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

While in Douglas, Gonzales has been active in the Assembly of God and First Baptist churches. She worked helping people with food baskets, and did a lot of work at the church’s women’s groups.

“We all love her deeply. She has been a very special mother for all of us. She has lived a very good life and her experiences and teachings have been invaluable to all of us. We all thank God for her long life,” said a family representative.
