Both the Douglas Fire Department and students at Ray Borane Middle School took a moment Friday to have a ceremony honoring those who died eight years ago in the 9-11 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. At the Douglas Fire Dept. Chief Mario Novoa and Captain Manuel Ayala spoke about the events surround the attacks and the impact they have had in their professional and personal lives. The DFD Color Guard unit displayed and then folded the United States flag placing it at their 9-11 memorial. That was followed by the traditional ringing of the ceremonial bell then a moment of silence remembering those who lost their lives that day. At Ray Borane Middle School an estimated 300 students displayed an abstract version of the U.S. Flag after watching a movie depicting the events of 9-11. School officials said some students were so moved by the movie they were drawn to tears.
