Low-income tax help offered

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 4:24 PM MDT

IRS low-income tax clinics are offering to help taxpayers resolve issues such as account problems, audits, appeals, collection disputes or tax court matters.

The workshops in Douglas and Tucson also will provide education on tax-related topics.

IRS officials said taxpayers who cannot afford professional tax help or speak English as a second language and need help understanding their tax rights and responsibilities may qualify for help. All help provided by the Taxpayers’ Clinic of Southern Arizona is free.

The clinic also can provide information on the recently enacted American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The clinics are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Walk-in help is available, but appointments are encouraged for in-depth issues. To schedule an appointment, call (520) 364-6789.

The Douglas clinic is located at 3801 N. Leslie Canyon Road, and the Tucson clinic is at 848 S. Seventh Ave.
