SIERRA VISTA — Two men are dead after a Thursday morning wreck involving two vehicles on Highway 80 near Tombstone Canyon in Bisbee.

William Enriquez, 38, of Bisbee, and George Root, 47, of Tucson, both suffered fatal injuries as a result of the head-on collision.

Two others, William Michael Enriquez, 19, of Bisbee, and Jason Tarket, 30, of Red Rock, suffered serious injuries and were taken by helicopter to University Medical Center in Tucson for treatment, said Joy Craig, spokeswoman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Sometime shortly before 8 a.m., an armored van, driven by Tarket and with Root in the passenger seat, crossed the center line on Highway 80 for an unknown reason and collided into the 2006 Ford Escape driven by William Enriquez with William Michael Enriquez in the passenger seat, Craig said.

As authorities responded to the scene, traffic on Highway 80 was rerouted for more than four hours at its intersection with Highway 90, and a roadblock was also placed on Highway 80 east of the scene of the wreck.

Police directed traffic to use Highway 92 as an alternate route.

A roadblock was also set up at Highway 90 and Moson Road east of Sierra Vista to establish a staging area for emergency units and helicopters, she said.

All roadblocks were removed shortly before 1 p.m.

According to Craig, the armored truck was delivering money to a Bank of America branch in Bisbee.

Hospital officials did not reply to inquiries about the condition of William Michael Enriquez and Jason Tarket prior to press time.

" OMG!!! A real person has past away for whatever reason it happened. Can you all please not bicker over how or who or what and realize that we need to be thankful for still being here and allow those who lost someone to mourn without all this sillyness. Grow up. Let who is to handle it, handle it. I am sorry for those who have lost their loved one. With these people down here arguing over things neither knows about, they are better off up in the sky, anyways in this corrupt world. My prayers are with you. "

" Sorry Bob you got it all wrong, armored car was coming into Bisbee and local driver was leaving Bisbee. It seems the armored car crossed the center line prior to 8:00 AM and no one was thinking Circle K. "

Derek Jordan, run your story by your editor and proof reader. Typical country bumpkin press coverage. "

" Really Bob? Are you a forensics expert in skid marks? Obviously in a head on collision someone was going the wrong way. Did you ever stop to think that the commercial traffic coming through was there to get you groceries or in this instance to make sure the bank isn't holding too much or too little money? Did you know the route that the armored car was driving? Maybe that was the most efficient route to get to their bank. You don't know and if you have an issue with commercial traffic maybe you should become a recluse that doesn't depend on anyone else for anything and move someplace far away so no one has to listen to you judge people and things you know nothing about. " Get off your high horse, Bob Pomeroy. Two men died, and you're upset because someone MIGHT have stopped for a treat at Circle K? Do you know this for a fact, or are you just supposing based on a photo and not many details in the article? I know, let's all get Bob Pomeroy's permission before we violate the sanctity of Tombstone Canyon...jeez. "

    " Bob,

You say: "Pretty clearly a non-statement of cause." Well, yeah. DPS has to do their investigation before they can determine who was at fault.

They leave the arm-chair quartebacking to the uninformed cyber DPS Officers to make their own judgements by a couple of scrape marks on the road.

How do you know if they were "stopping for a treat?" If they were, it isn't any of your business. And if they did stop at the K, they were obviously helping Bisbee's struggling economy.

Maybe they were trying to save the environment by using a shorter route out of Bisbee?

Too bad you cannnot mourn their families' losses for just one tiny second. "

Bob Pomeroy wrote on Oct 23, 2009 4:02 PM:

" Pretty clearly a non-statement of cause. By the scrape marks and positions of the vehicle, it appears someone was going the wrong way on the entry ramp, but I can't figure out which. It seems the local driver would know better, but the only reason the armored car would even be in this area is if they stopped at Circle K for a treat on the way home. The armored car is nothing if it is not a commercial vehicle, and please commercial vehicles should service commercial enterprises via entry at the commercial exit near the commercial district and not burden the Tombstone Canyon neighborhood with extraneous and unnecessary traffic. For that reason, the armored car should have been up on the highway to the tunnel and not on Tombstone Canyon. Stopping at Circle K for a treat is a personal diversion from the reason it was even in Bisbee. "
