“The driver of the pickup refused to stop and led police on a pursuit south on Pan American Avenue,” Gonzalez said. “The vehicle lost control at 6th Street and Pan American while trying to make a left turn onto 6th Street and hit a large pine tree near the Sprint Store.”
Gonzalez said the driver managed to reverse his truck away from the tree and continued fleeing from police.
Police continued pursuing the pickup south toward the port of entry where police had set up a road block waiting for the fleeing vehicle.
“The driver (of the truck) stopped before reaching the U.S. Port of Entry and then drove in reverse northbound on Pan American Avenue to 3rd Street where he lost control and collided with a detectives’ vehicle and two fully marked patrol vehicles,” Gonzalez said.
The truck suffered damage to the driveline and was immobilized.
The driver, identified as Ismael Francisco German-Urrea, 20, was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
Upon searching the pickup detectives found 10 bundles of marijuana in the bed of the truck.
Gonzalez said detectives seized the pickup and the marijuana as evidence. The marijuana weighed 233-pounds and carried an estimated street value of over $100,000.
Urrea was arrested for Unlawful Flight from Pursuing Law Enforcement, Possession of Marijuana for Sale, Transportation of Marijuana for Sale, 4-counts of Endangerment, and 4-counts of Aggravated Assault.
Urrea was transported to the Cochise County Jail for detention.
