Bulldogs defense holds for 30-28 win over Amphi

Douglas Bulldog Joey Bello scored three touchdowns leading Douglas to a narrow 30-28 win over Amphi in Tucson on Friday.

Bello scored on a 99-yard kickoff return and twice more on passes.

The biggest play for the Bulldogs may have been on defense. Amphi tried a reverse near their own 10 yard line and the Bulldog defense wasn't fooled and made the tackle in the endzone for a saety.

It gave Douglas a 23-14 lead and proved to be the difference  at the end of the game.

The win helped solidify the Bulldogs playoff chances and may give them a home playoff game.

" Names are always mentioned when they make touchdowns but never the names of the defense when they make good plays, like a safety. Don't you think that would make the defense players feel good too? Just my opinion. "

" What a truely wonderful season the bulldogs are having. Coach Keith and the bulldog staff have made such a great difference. I had the great pleasure of playing for Coach Keith and Coach Ellsworth in the late 80s. When I heard Keith and Ellsworth would be be teaming up again I had a feeling good things were once again going to happen. The bulldogs are once again exciting to watch even in their three loses this season they never quit. They are now one game away from a 7 win 3 lose season
and the playoffs ahead... I hope these two coaches and their staff decide to stay awhile as they have made such a difference in the team, the players attitude have changed, they do not hang their heads when they are behind, they continue to play and fight back.... it is a pleasure to watch them. " It shouldn't have been that close. Here in again, Coach Keith does not for some reason have faith in his kicker, Michael Abrigo to kick field goals. Had Coach Keith made the right decision and taken the field goal with a 4th and 3 in Amphi territory, the score would've been 33-28 and the defense would've been able to relax just a lil bit more. How many games is it going to take Coach Keith to realize it's ok to take the 3 rather than not convert on 4th down? Will it take a playoff loss by 3 points for him to realize it? We will have to wait and see. "
