Lady Bulldogs drop two more conference games

With the regular season winding down and the playoffs out of sight the Douglas Lady Bulldogs volleyball team dropped two more conference games last week extending their losing streak to three.

On Thursday Douglas fell to Amphi three games to one at Douglas High School. Scores nor stats were available from the Douglas coaches.

On Tuesday Douglas led 2-0 against last place Santa Rita and was one match away from a win when the wheels fell off and the Lady Bulldogs gave up three straight games to Santa Rita allowing the Lady Eagles to win their first conference match this year.

Douglas won the first two games 25-22 and 25-20 before dropping the next three 22-25, 18-25 and 13-15.

Lina Campbell had 24 kills, five aces and two blocks this match. Victoria Mariscal had three kills, three aces and four digs, Elise Urquijo 15 assists and one block, Erika Tapia 17 assists, four kills, four digs and five aces. Michelle Chavez had six digs.

With just two weeks left in the regular season the Lady Bulldogs, 5-8 overall, 2-8 in league play, are on the road twice this week before hosting Sahuarita Nov. 3 on what will be Mom and Dad’s night for the DHS seniors.

     Junior varsity

The Douglas JV’s lost two games this past week falling to Amphi on Thursday and Santa Rita on Tuesday.

Against Amphi Douglas won the first game 25-23, lost the second 17-25 and then dropped the third 13-15.

Kayla Vasquez had two assists against Amphi. Roxanna Valenzuela had five assists, Amy Victoria five kills, four digs, two aces and an assist, Arianna Estrada had an assist and a dig. Aileen Nunez four kills, a dig, a block and an ace. Patty Countryman had five digs and an ace.

Against Santa Rita Douglas won the first game 25-21 before losing the second by the same score. Douglas then dropped the third 13-15.

Carley Acosta had six kills and three digs this match. Victoria six kills, five aces, three digs and an assist, Paulina Ramos three digs and an ace, Daniella Juarez two aces, Esme Alvarez a dig and an ace, Jennifer Montoya three kills, a dig and a block and Nythia Machado 14 assists, three aces and a block.

The JV’s fall to 8-4 on the season having lost their last three games.

Freshmen

The Douglas freshmen volleyball team also played two matches last week. Scores nor stats were not available from the Douglas coaches.
