Depth was a major factor in this meet as Tucson had a 20-10 edge in both the boys and girls events. That depth allowed to Tucson outscoring Douglas 13-2 in the girls 200 freestyle; 12-2 in the 200 freestyle relay and 10-4 and 11-5 in the 200 medley relay and 100 breaststroke.
Of the 11 girls events Douglas was outscored in every event but two – the 400 freestyle relay and the 100 backstroke.
In the boys meet the same thing occurred as Douglas outscored Tucson in just two of the 11 events and was actually outscored 13-0 in the 200 individual medley and 14-0 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Coach Cardenas said her swimmers are having a good season and fortunately this was a non-regional meet.
On the regional level the coach says all the schools in the Gila Region seem to have similar numbers when it comes to participants.
“We’ve had a lot of club swimmers move up which has helped us,” she said. “We have just a good a shot as anybody right now.”
The DHS swimmers are back in the pool Thursday taking on Palo Verde in a dual meet in Tucson.
