Conference play continued this past week for the Douglas Lady Bulldogs volleyball team who dropped two more matches falling to both Cholla and Sahuarita extending their losing streak to four straight games.

On Thursday the Lady Bulldogs fell to Sahuarita in three straight games. Scores nor stats were not available from the Douglas coaches.

On Tuesday the Lady Bulldogs lost to Cholla three games to one. Douglas lost the first and second games 20-25 and 26-28. The Lady Bulldogs took game three 25-21 and then dropped game four 14-25.

Elise Urquijo had 14 assists, one ace and a block for Douglas while Erika Tapia had three assists, five kills, three blocks, eight digs and four aces. Lina Campbell finished with 10 kills, three aces and three blocks and two digs and two assists, Michelle Chavez had an assist, four kills and four digs. Vicky Lara had a dig and Victoria Mariscal a kill, a dig and two assists.

Douglas’ coach Lorena Tapia was clearly frustrated by what’s happening with her team in league play.

“These girls have the potential to be one of the top teams in this league,” she said. “We just can’t seem to get it done.”

Tapia has seen her team lose leads and lose games she feels they should have won.

Cholla was one of those matches.

In game two Douglas had an eight point lead at one point in the match only to see Cholla rally back to take the win.

In game three the Lady Bulldogs again had to hang on as Cholla rallied back.

Douglas, 4-5 overall, 1-5 in conference, kicks off the second half of their conference season Thursday at Palo Verde.

“We can still turn this thing around,” she said. “We just need to see which team shows up.”

Junior varsity

The Douglas JV’s chalked up another win last week beating Cholla’s JV’s in two straight. Scores were 25-17, 25-18.

Linda Lopez two blocks and an ace, Amy Victoria five aces and a kill, Danielle Juarez had a dig and a assist, Arianna Estrada two aces and a dig, Aileen Nunez three blocks, an ace and a kill and Karina Avechuco two aces, a dig, a kill and a block.

Douglas’ coach Carlos Chavez said his girls are playing good volleyball and need to keep it going.

No score was available from Douglas’ match with Sahaurita.
