Douglas resident, David Villaescusa, is the recipient of a bike from the Douglas Bike Rodeo held October 3, 2009 at the Douglas Police Department parking lot. The winner of the bike was selected from essays written as part of a contest to promote the bike safety rodeo and the Chiricahua Community Health Centers Cochise Classic Fun Ride.

The Douglas Bike Rodeo was held in cooperation with the Douglas Police Department and the Douglas Public Library. The next Douglas Bike Rodeo will be held in January 2010.
David’s winning essay will be published in the November/December issue of Tail Winds and is featured below.
“Hi, my name is David. Here are some reasons I want a bike. I got a bike but it is old. I hardly use it because it is hard to ride. It has a rusty chain. It is hard to pedal. The reason I want that bike is that it would be smoother to ride where I live. Where I live it is desert. So when I ride in my other bike it is not smooth. But with the new bike it would be. Another reason I want a bike is because it doesn’t get you tired like my old bike. It would be more comfortable. I also want a bike to exercise and stay in shape. If I win the bike it would be easier for me and it would make me happy. That is why I want a bike.”
Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, Inc. is a non-profit organization responsible for the production and promotion of four major cycling events in Arizona, including the Cochise County Cycling Classic.
