The marijuana had an estimated street value of over $150,000.
According to Mark Gonzalez of the Douglas Police Dept. the DPD received a call of suspicious activity/possible drug activity occurring at a residence on 9th Street.
“Douglas Police Detectives conducted surveillance of the residence for two days and noticed heavy vehicular traffic at the residence, which is typical for a drug drop house,” Gonzalez said. “Detectives also noticed the same male subject entering and exiting the residence when vehicular traffic arrived and left the residence.”
Gonzalez said detectives noticed a male subject at the residence and eventually approached the residence.
As they were moving in the male subject, identified as Angel Smith, 29, of Douglas, attempted to escape through the back door of the residence, but was quickly apprehended by detectives.
“Detectives smelled a strong odor of fresh marijuana coming from inside the residence and later learned that the residence did, in fact, contain fresh marijuana,” Gonzalez said.
A search warrant was obtained and executed. Inside DPD detectives discovered 14 bundles of marijuana hidden in a bedroom closet inside the residence.”
Smith was arrested for Possession of Marijuana for Sale and Transportation of Marijuana for Sale and booked into Cochise County Jail for detention.
Just the day before DPD officers seized 233 pounds of marijuana, valued at over $100,000, from a man from Mexico who was attempting to bring the drugs into Douglas.
A brief pursuit followed with the man crashing his pickup into two fully marked police cars and one detectives vehicle.
No one was injured in this incident and the man identified as Ismael Francisco German-Urrea, 20, was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
Urrea was arrested for Unlawful Flight from Pursuing Law Enforcement, Possession of Marijuana for Sale, Transportation of Marijuana for Sale, 4-counts of Endangerment, and 4-counts of Aggravated Assault. Urrea was transported to the Cochise County Jail for detention.

It is an easy way to make money, but who is suffering now....the family.
I hear say "I did it for my family" Well let me say this you don't raise CHILDREN with MONEY you raise them with LOVE and ATTENTION.
Don't blame Mexico or U.S. we must blame ourselves for not teaching our children to make the right choices.
God Bless us all and give us the knowledge and guidance to teach our children the right path.
Smuggling is for cowards with excuses. "
