After months of working and planning, Douglas Mayor Dr. Michael Gomez announced that the National Christmas tree will travel through Douglas on its way to Washington, D.C.

While details are still a little sketchy, the three will be in Douglas on Saturday, November 14. It will be parked in the downtown area, between 10th and 11th Street, for the time allowed.

is working to have the Washington D.C. Christmas Tree make its trek from the White Mountains of Arizona through Douglas before it heads for the nation’s capitol.

More information on the program will be provided as it becomes available.

In the initial  letter from  the National Forest Service, it says,“... This year, “the people’s tree” will come from of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in Arizona’s White Mountains.

“Before heading east with The Tree, we plan to tour the state to give our citizens a chance to see, and be a part of this great event. We are planning to make 20-25 stops in cities and towns along a proposed route through Arizona during the month of November. Douglas is located along our route and we would like to make your community one of the Capitol Christmas Tree celebration stops! If you accept this invitation, your community will be asked to plan and host an event as The Tree Caravan passes through your community.

“ In previous years, communities hosted events such as parades, receptions, community gatherings with singing, Santa Claus, marching bands, musical performances, and/or welcoming addresses by town leaders. “

" good work Mayor. maybe you can work on something of importance for Douglas, like getting federal dollars for the port expansion. Or supporting health care for our community. "
