Velia M. Rios, long time resident of Douglas passed away on October 23, 2009. Velia was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.


Velia was born on November 9, 1923 to Pascual Maldonado and Geronima Lopez in La Pera, Sonora, Mexico. She is preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Surviving Velia is her husband Tomas Rios of 61 years of marriage. Also surviving are her 4 sons, Alejandro Rios, Roberto Rios, Ruben Rios, Daniel Rios and sister Carmen Renteria. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Velia was a loving wife, mother, home maker who enjoyed cooking, music, athletics and especially enjoyed watching football with her boys.

A viewing was held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009-8:00 a.m. in the main chapel of Adair Douglas Funeral Chapel. Rosary for Velia was, Tuesday, October 27, 2009-10:15 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Mass of the Resurrection was held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009-10:45 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Armando Espinoza. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Javier Rios, Claudio Rios, Antonio Rios, Felipe Rios, Roberto Rios, and Robert Rios Jr. Care was entrusted to Adair Douglas Funeral Chapel, 364-2121, Funeral Director Alex Espinosa.
