Ramon “Monchi” Chavez, 75, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2009. He was born on September 14, 1934.


Monchi was born and raised in Douglas, Arizona. He worked for Phelps Dodge for many years, then moved to Los Angeles with his family in 1976, where he remained for 20 years. He resided in Sierra Vista, Arizona, for the remainder of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Guillermina, (Minnie) Chavez, six sons, Ray Chavez, Joe (Rosemary) Chavez, Johnny (Irene) Chavez, Ernie (Josie) Chavez, Arturo (Yvonne) Chavez, Frankie (Angeline) Chavez; daughter Ana Chavez; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

On October 4, 1952, Monchi, married the love of his life “Minnie” and they recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. He enjoyed his beer and his casinos. He was a kind, sensitive man, who always expressed unselfish love and dedication to his family and friends. We will. forever miss the sound of his “Coors” beer can crack open, followed by a huge smile and a long “aaaaah.”

He left us all precious memories that will forever live in our hearts. He will forever be our “Ray of Light.”

A  memorial mass was celebrated on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 800 Taylor Drive in Sierra Vista. Father Bartolome was the celebrant.
