Lady Bulldogs win one, lose one

The Douglas Lady Bulldogs volleyball team continued on in league play this past week beating Rio Rico and losing to Palo Verde.


On Thursday the Lady Bulldogs fell in four games to Palo Verde losing games one and two 25-15, 25-21 before winning game three 25-19 and then losing game four 25-16.

In the earlier match in Douglas, Palo Verde took three straight from Douglas.

Erika Tapia had 27 assists, three blocks and four digs against Palo Verde. Lina Campbell had 16 kills, four blocks and four digs. Michelle Chavez had five kills, five blocks and six digs, Vicky Lara had a kill and four digs, Victoria Mariscal one assist, five kills, three blocks, two digs and an ace. Patty Countryman had three digs and a kill.

On Oct. 13 the Lady Bulldogs snapped a four game skid with a 25-14, 16-25, 25-18, 25-14 win over Rio Rico.

Tapia had 32 assists, three kills and six aces this match. Campbell had 18 kills, one assist, three blocks and a dig. Chavez finished with 10 kills, two blocks and an assist, Mariscal had eight kills, seven aces and two digs and Nthia Machado had four assists and two kills.

Douglas’ coach Lorena Tapia said her team did show some improvement against Palo Verde taking a game off them but they can’t seem to get over that mental hump that they can beat these teams.

On Oct. 8 the Lady Bulldogs lost to Sahuarita 23-25, 10-25 and 19-25.

Elise Urquijo had nine assists, one kill and an ace; Tapia had five assists, three kills, two blocks, seven digs and two aces. Campbell had four kills, three blocks and a dig. Chavez five kills, one block and an ace, Lara one assist and a kill and Mariscal two kills, two blocks and three digs.

Douglas, 5-6 overall and 2-6 in league play, is at home again this Thursday hosting Amphi.

Junior varsity

The Douglas JV’s lost to Rio Rico last Tuesday. Scores were 14-25, 25-17, 12-15.

Carley Acosta had four aces, two digs, a kill and a block for Douglas. Kayla Vasquez had four assists, a dig and an ace. Amy Victoria had six digs, two aces and two kills. Alexis Hinojosa had three kills and three blocks and Aileen Nunez five digs, two kills two blocks, an ace and an assist.

No score was available from Douglas’ match with Palo Verde.

Freshmen

The Douglas freshmen volleyball team also played two matches last week. Scores nor stats were not available from the Douglas coaches.

    " I agree with you. It isn't always fair, i know. The Chavez are the same as far as personal interest except at least Ms Tapia's daughter actually has athletic ability unlike the other. "
