Natalio Sabal, who took out recall petitions against Douglas Mayor Dr. Michael Gomez several months ago, officially announced he can no longer be involved in that effort.

“It is imperative to note that my departure from the process does not negate the fact that there was an enormous amount of interest in changing the leadership in the Mayor’s office. The citizenry is extremely concerned about the cronyism, nepotism and favoritism blatantly seen coming out of his office along with the lack of leadership in very important city matters and projects.
“It is also interesting and important to note that there were many citizens that would not sign the public petition for fear of intimidation or retaliation.
“I would like to thank the many people that did sign and were willing to let their feelings of dissatisfaction be known regardless of the fear factor as well as the many others that informed me that they would vote for me had there been an election with a private ballot.”
The recall group has 120 days, until December 1, to collect 424 valid signatures (25 percent of the total number of votes cast in the last mayoral election) to force a recall.

I wrote a comment back to "Keep the discussion moving forward" last week. Would you please allow it to be published or are you continuing with your own personal adgenda?? "

But, there are some elders that do not stop talking and at times we need to just walk away... OR rather let them walk away. Thank you Mr. Sabal for walking away! "

After 72 days of silence, the two board members who want to fire Douglas Schools Superintendent Earl Pettit still aren't saying why they want him gone. But Nine On Your Side has obtained new documents that shed more light on what's going on. The documents show that Stevenson Elementary volunteer and PTSO President Alvina Hoyack teamed up with her husband, school board president Chuck Hoyack, more than one year ago in a campaign to get rid of Pettit. Alvina Hoyack sent a total a total of at least five single-spaced pages filled with anti-Pettit invective to the school board. In the first, dated November 21, 2008, she wrote that Pettit "has neither couth nor morals" and asked the board to fire him. A few days later her husband tried to do that, scheduling a special board meeting for December 15th with just one issue on the agenda: Pettit's termination and interim replacement. The attempt to fire Pettit derailed when only one other board member, Patricia Lopez, showed up for the meeting.
Most of the finger-pointing was about the troubled English Language Learner program at Stevenson elementary, and a proposal from superintendent Pettit to reorganize the school. Nine on Your Side is working on a full report now. Watch for the latest tonight (Tuesday, November 24th) on KGUN9 News at 10. "
