Bulldogs fall in quarterfinals

Published/Last Modified on Saturday, November 21, 2009 6:26 AM MST

The Douglas Bulldogs were overwhelmed by Glendale by Glendale Cactus, 70-21, as they scored the first seven times they touched the ball in the Arizona 4A-II Quarterfinals.

Glendale rolled up a 49-0 lead after the first half.

Douglas came back strong with three scores in the third quarter, including forcing two turnovers,  but a Cactus runback of a kickoff for a touchdown put a stop the comeback.

Douglas finished with one of its best records in years, 8-4.

    " Congrats Bulldogs!
As a team you did well with a great new head coach. Not so much new as he coached the BD's before but you had to transition and I think next season you will be even better!
Thanks Coach Keith for doing what you and the team did.
You should be proud of what you accomplished.
Now, pound the off season program. "

" Just wanted to say congradulations to the Bulldogs for having an awesome year. Coach Keith and Staff did an amazing job this past year and will go so in the future. The Dawgs are back and it feels great. I am from Douglas and I follow the Bulldogs in the paper all the time. I am so proud to be a Bulldog. I am sure the people in Douglas are very proud of the year they had. Something very positive out of Douglas for a change. Douglas has changed so much and hopefully this is a beginning of a positive attitude in Douglas. God Bless you all and you are awesome. "

" Thank you to the "old washed-up, recycled" coaching staff for coming back one more time for the kids. The Pop Warner All-Americans will just have to keep quiet for another year.

Great work, Coaches Keith, Ellsworth, Grijalva and Rojas. Finally, Douglas is behind you. It was an honor playing for you guys. "
