CBP officers seize 2 pounds marijuana in purses

 U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they seized two purses. Each purse contained about 2 pounds of marijuana.

On November 17th at about 6:30 p.m. CBP Officers at the Douglas Port of Entry were screening travelers when they came in contact with two U.S. citizen girls. One was 17-years-old and the other was 16-years-old. The CBP Officers noticed that both girls were carrying 2 very large purses that appeared to be heavier than normal.

The CBP Officers searched the two purses and discovered that both girls were attempting to smuggle 1 brick of marijuana in the bottom of both purses. The total weight of marijuana was about 4 pounds with an estimated street value of $7000.  

CBP Officers seized the marijuana. The two girls were questioned by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and then released to the custody of their parents.  

Bicycle seized by CBP officers  at Douglas Port  

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they apprehended a 16-year-old boy trying to smuggle marijuana concealed in the wheels of his bicycle.

On November 20th at about 6:30 p.m. CBP Officers were screening travelers when they observed a 16-year-old boy approaching the Primary Vehicle Lanes pushing a bicycle.

The boy was identified as a U.S citizen and resident of Douglas. The CBP Officers searched the bicycle and found that both tires had been loaded with marijuana. The total weight of marijuana was about 3.5 pounds for an estimated street value of over $5,300.

CBP Officers seized the marijuana and bicycle. The boy was held by CBP Officers for questioning and then released to the custody of his parents.   

Two U.S. Citizens Attempt to Smuggle 10-Year-Old Child

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers working at the Douglas POE arrested two Douglas women for attempting to smuggle a 10-year-old child into the United States.

On November 19th at about 4 p.m. CBP officers were screening passengers and vehicles when they came in contact with a vehicle being driven by a 21-year-old Douglas woman and her mother.

CBP Officers became suspicious of the two women when they questioned the relationship between them and a 10-year-old girl that was accompanying them.  Further investigation revealed that the two women were actually attempting to smuggle the 10-year-old girl into the United States for monetary gain.  

“Child smuggling is never routine ” said George De La Ossa, Supervisor for Passenger Processing at the Douglas Port of Entry ” to see these young children separated from family; subjected to the smuggler’s discretion can be heart wrenching.

“CBP Officers are committed to protect the traveling public and many times are called upon to defend those that fall victim to the smuggler’s schemes. We are the Guardians of our Nation and must forever remain vigilant.”

 CBP Officers seized the vehicle. The two Douglas women were held by CBP Officers for further investigation.

Phoenix woman arrested for drug smugglin  at Douglas Port of Entry

DOUGLAS, Arizona — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they seized nearly 200  pounds of marijuana from a 32 year-old Phoenix woman.

On November 21st at about 6 p.m. CBP Officers at the Douglas Port of Entry were screening travelers when they came in contact with a 32-year-old woman driving a 2004 Chevrolet Pick-up Truck.

The woman was identified as a U.S citizen and resident of Phoenix. The CBP Officers selected the vehicle for inspection. Utilizing high-tech equipment, CBP Officers discovered that the bed of the pick-up truck, as well as the gas tank, had been altered to accommodate the concealment of nearly 200 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value $310,000.  

CBP Officers seized the vehicle and marijuana. The woman was turned over to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
