The Mexican Consulate has received a Douglas Youth Advocates Community Award.

After the fire department, the Starfish Club was recognized for its actions with social benefit.
Then, the Head of the Mexican Consulate in Douglas, Oscar Antonio de la Torre Amezcua, received an award in the category Governmental Organization of the Year, delivered by the South East Arizona Behavioral Health Services Youth Advocates, a group of young entrepreneurs dedicated to organizing events and actions on behalf of the community. The organizers also recognized the Volunteer and Teacher of the year.
In interview after the ceremony, de la Torre expressed his appreciation to all the winners because “their conviction and commitment translates into actions for the common welfare”
The diplomat expressed great enthusiasm for receiving the award on behalf of the Consular Staff: “This reflects the professionalism and service orientation of our team. Each and every one of us is firmly committed to the mandate provided to us by the President Calderón and the secretary of foreign affairs: to serve our community.”
De la Torre concluded: “We appreciate the award and are motivated to continue working. However, our day-by-day job is not aimed to receive any prize but to provide a warm and human service to our compatriots.”
