Community Action mandated to change its assistance process The Arizona Department of Economic Security has mandated Southeastern Arizona Community Action Program, Inc. to change its current intake/assistance process when providing services for utility, rental, weatherization, utility repair and/or replace and case management services. Effective November 30, 2009, the following process will be implemented: Households living in Bisbee, Naco, Hereford, McNeal, Palominas, needing any of the services listed above, must call the local office in Bisbee (520-432-5401), on the last day of each month to get an appointment for the 1st working day of the next month. Appointments will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis starting at 8:00 am. (There will be a limited number of appointments available each month.) Households will be provided with information, when they get a scheduled appointment over the phone, of the required paperwork necessary to complete an application. There will also be a limited number of walk-in appointments, available on a daily basis, for families who must meet the definition of a “vulnerable household”. These walk-in appointments will only be available at the office located at 1326 Hwy. 92 #11, Bisbee, Arizona 85603. It is recommended you call 520-432-5401 to get information on appointment availability before you make the trip to the Bisbee office. This definition is: • Household must contain an elderly household member (age 60 or older) or a disabled household member (verifiable disability) OR • A child under two (2) years of age, AND • Must have a utility shut-off notice or eviction notice which would result in loss of utility services or homelessness. If you have any questions, concerns and/or issues with this new process, you may contact Librado M. Ramirez, Executive Director at 1-800-293-1144 or Sandra Mendez, Program Manager, Az. Department of Economic Security at 1-800-582-5706.
