Former Douglas Mayor and DUSD Administrator Ray Borane was selected to finish out the school year as the chief administrative office for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Borane had already agreed on a contract of only $1 for that time period, and will begin on  February 4.

The Board unanimously approved his appointment at the Tuesday meeting.

Borane  served as the assistant to the president of Northern Arizona University from 1993 to 1995, the deputy state superintendent of public instruction from 1988 to 1993, the superintendent of the Douglas Unified School District from 1976 to 1988, and the president of the Arizona State Board of Education.

He began his career in Arizona as a Spanish teacher at Douglas High School.

He is a graduate of Arizona State University and performed graduate studies at the University of Bogota in Colombia and the University of Guadalajara in Mexico.

The board also agreed to a $3,500  fee and to have the Arizonqa School Board Association conduct a search for a new superintendent. It is hoped that a choice can be made and be in Douglas before the end of the school year.
