The Douglas Lady Bulldog basketball team had a chance to move into a tie for first place in the Gila Region but a much taller Palo Verde team prevailed winning 54-40 in the DHS gym Friday night.

Erika Tapia led Douglas in scoring with 16 points, Gaby Valencia followed with eight and Aileen Nunez contributed six.

Palo Verde led from start to finish this game increasing a five point lead at halftime into a 14-point margin in the second half.

The Lady Bulldogs still have a shot at the post season but need to win their final two games next week. Douglas will host Catalina Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the DHS gym. It’ll be Mom and Dad’s night for the departing DHS seniors.

Game time has been moved up since there is no freshman game.

Still stinging from that loss to the Douglas Bulldogs several weeks ago in Douglas the Palo Verde Titans took no prisoners Friday night in a 90-53 spanking in boys basketball action.

The Titans used a 30-9 run in the second half to take a 53-26 lead at the half.

Spencer Grijalva led Douglas in scoring with 17 points, Cristobal Mariscal followed with 9.

The Bulldogs are at Catalina on Tueaday before closing out the regular season at home on Friday against Cholla.
