TUCSON - The Bisbee Ironmen battled the not only the weather but also the Buckeye Warriors Saturday at Tucson High School walking away with a 24-0 victory in AzFL play.

Despite the freezing rain wind and an early turnover the Ironmen offense got going to put up 24 uncontested points while the defense "dug deep" to hold the Buckeye Warriors scoreless.

The first Ironmen score came in the second quarter on a 17 yard pass from quarterback Alonso Dagnino to Sterling Schuller. Schuller also had the game winning TD last week in a wild 14-13 win over their Cochise County counterparts in Douglas. The missed extra point left Bisbee with a 6-0 lead.

Later in the quarter Brian Earnest recovered a Warrior fumble in the end zone; again the extra point was no good as Bisbee took a 12-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter the Ironmen struck again scoring this time on a five-yard run from Brian Vertrees, making the score 18-0. The final score came with less than two minutes remaining when Schuller intercepted a Warrior pass and returned it back 29-yards for a score giving Bisbee a commanding 24-0 lead.

"This is an important win for us," Bisbee owner and general manager Caroline Gonzales said. "We go into our bye week with back-to-back wins and a firm lead in our Desert Division. The Ironmen are excited to represent our proud communities from the front of our division. We should be able to finish the season strong and head into the playoffs with some good momentum"

The Ironmen (3-2) are off this week and will resume play March 6th taking on the Central Phoenix Spartans (2-2) at 2:30 p.m. at Apache Middle School in Sierra Vista.

The Cochise County Cavaliers (1-2) will be playing the Tempe Predators (0-4) at noon.
