A Christian Dorame homer in the second pulled Douglas within one and Cristobal Mariscal would score on a passed ball later that inning tying the game at 3-3.
Douglas erupted for five runs in the top of the third and added one more in the fourth increasing its lead to 9-3.
The game was stopped after Chavez batted in the bottom of the fifth due to time limit.
Fabian Ochoa was the winning pitcher throwing four innings and giving up three runs off three hits. Victor Machado threw one inning in relief and gave up no runs off no hits.
Douglas had 10 hits in the opener. Jason Sanez was 2 for 3, Acosta 1 for 2, Ochoa 1 for 4, Jesus Salazar 1 for 2, Tony Young and Dorame each 2 for 3 and Joel Barredo 1 for 3.
Douglas' baseball coach Gilbert Rojas said this was a good way for his kids to start the 2010 season.
"We made some mistakes but were still able to beat a very good team," he said.
Cesar Chavez is coached by former Bulldog Serge Acosta.
The Bulldogs are back in action Thursday hosting Desert View in a 4 p.m. game at Copper King Stadium.
