Police arrest male subject for transporting marijuana

A Mexican national is in custody after being arrested Feb. 10 for possession of marijuana.

According to Mark Gonzales of the Douglas Police Dept., shortly after 7 p.m. Feb. 10 Douglas Police conducted a traffic stop on a yellow 2002 Jeep Wrangler for a traffic violation on 17th St.

DPD officers noticed a strong smell of fresh marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the vehicle.  A search of the vehicle revealed three large bundles of marijuana behind the backseat.  Police seized the marijuana and the vehicle and arrested the driver, Oswaldo Bermudez, 45, a Mexican national for possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, and transportation of marijuana for sale.

Gonzales said the marijuana weighed 51.9 lbs. and has an estimated street value of approximately $26,000.

Bermudez was booked into the Cochise County Jail for detention, where he is being held on $30,000 bond.
