Bruce Whetten / Douglas Dispatch Sterling Schuller of the Bisbee Ironmen hauls in a touchdown pass from Marccelino Encinas on a halfback option play with less than two minutes remaining in the inaugural Brawl on the Border between the Ironmen and the Cochise County Cavaliers Saturday at Douglas High School. Bisbee won the game 14-13.

Sterling Schuller’s 27-yard touchdown pass from Marcelino Encinas on a halfback option play with less than two minutes remaining in the game broke a 7-7 tie and gave Bisbee a 13-7 lead.

Hector Madrid’s extra point would give Bisbee that much needed extra point and eventually prove to be the difference in the game.

With time running out the Cavaliers marched the length of the field in just over a minute scoring with 16 seconds remaining on a 19-yard run by Rashaud Armstrong pulling Cochise County within one.

Tim Prevatte’s extra point was wide left allowing Bisbee to celebrate the win.

Following a scoreless first quarter Erik Shisslak’s 3-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter gave the Ironmen the early lead as Madrid hit the extra point.

The Cavaliers came right back on their ensuring drive scoring on a 46-yard TD pass from Stephen Braswell to Richard Hummel. Prevatte’s extra point knotted the score at 7-7 at the half.

Caroline Gonzales, General Manager for the Ironmen said she was happy with how her teams’ first home game turned out.

“What a great game,” she said. “The guys really needed this.”

The Ironmen were scheduled to host the Phoenix Raiders Jan. 23 in Bisbee in what should have been the home opener. Rains postponed that game which Gonzales says is on tap to be made up April 3 at a location to be announced later.

The Ironmen, 2-2, face the Buckeye Warriors next Saturday in Tucson while the Cavaliers, 1-2, will face the West Valley Headhunters in Phoenix.
