Candidate with Dougles ties seeks return to Legislature

Former Arizona State Legislator Ruben Ortega of Hereford, AZ announces that he will run for Arizona’s 25th Legislative District. He served from 1989-1996 then, retired to Sierra Vista to run the family business. The district encompasses Cochise, Pima, Maricopa and Santa Cruz counties.

Ortega recounts “ I was privileged to serve southeastern Arizona for eight years. My record shows that I served the people of southeastern Arizona with honesty, commitment and purpose.”

Ortega a conservative Democrat and Cochise County Native, states he looks forward to representing a district that is geographically and culturally diverse. The far-ranging district encompasses the Towns and communities of Ajo, Avra Valley, Benson, Bisbee, Buckeye, Chuichu, Douglas, Elfrida, Gila Bend, Huachuca City, Hereford, Marana, Naco, Nogales, Palominas, Pearce, Picture Rocks, Pirtleville, Pisinemo, Rio Rico, Santa Rosa, Sells, Sierra Vista, Soniota, St. David, Summit, Sunsites, Tombstone, Tumacacori-Carmen, Whetstone and Willcox.

Ortega says “ What is common in all of these communities is that they desire the ability to have regular contact with their elected folks at the state capitol. As their representative, I won’t ignore them, will work hard and visit often.”

As an experienced State Representative, Ortega understands that what may be a good idea for urban Phoenix and Tucson, is impractical and bad for rural Arizona The State Legislature and Governor’s office are in strong need of common sense civility and cooperation that seeks solutions for all of Arizona.

In summary, Ortega said, “Even though I am a registered Democrat, I was able to reach across the partisan aisle and work with Republican legislators and helped improve the lives of many people. I found my tenure very rewarding and look forward to serving yet again.”
