Both the Douglas Bulldog and Lady Bulldog track teams were back in action March 10 falling to Nogales in a dual meet at Douglas High School.

The Bulldogs fell 114-28 while the Lady Bulldogs were defeated 113-22.

In the boys meet Joseph Sandoval placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles posting a time of 19 seconds.

Alfonso Mejia won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 46 seconds. Mejia was third in the 100-meters finishing with a time of 11.5 seconds.

Spencer Grijalva finished third in the shot put recording a throw of 38-feet, nine-inches; Miguel Castro was third in the 800-meters finishing with a time of 2:24.

In the pole vault event Francisco Dominguez came in first with a vault of 11’6”; Sam Bello was second at nine-feet.

Bello finished third in the 400-meters finishing with a time of 56.2 seconds.

Dominguez placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 34’6”; Francisco Noriega followed in third with a 33’7”.

Noriega was also second in the long jump with a jump of 18’1” and he was third in the high jump with a jump of 5’2”.

Douglas’ track coach Ron Ellsworth said a number of athletes didn’t compete in the meet with Nogales due to ineligibility or the fact they chose to miss practice before the meet.

The coach is hoping to have his team back at full strength when the Bulldog tracksters return to action March 24 with a tri-meet in Tucson with Palo Verde and Marana.

In the girls meet Nogales had an athlete win every single event except the pole vault where Lady Bulldog Jeanette Valencia placed first with a vault of 6’6”.

No other stats were available from the Lady Bulldog track coaches.
