" Hector M.....Brilliant suggestion! How come the administration of the City of Douglas didnt think of this? You need to be hired as a Business development directoror at least a consultant, obviously you have some fresh ideas, that are spot on! Its plain to see that since Mike Ortega, and Ray Borane have moved on to bigger and better things, there is no leadership down at city hall,no creativity, no thinking "outside the box" , actually, no thinking whatsoever, to benefit our town. All the tourism stops at Bisbee , then heads back to Tombstone. Its appalling that after all these years , the "leadership" of this city, has not figgured out a "gimmic", for lack of a better word to bring the tourists another 22 miles to Douglas! We are missing out on alot of tourism dollars that we could have here in Douglas. Its not the depressed economy that has Douglas with its head barely above the waterline, its the absence of creativity, and fresh ideas that is hurting us. Wake up , Douglas! we have alot to offer, but it will never happen, unless we get some people at City Hall that can actually "think", and lead, as opposed to just following the status quo,and spend year after year, sitting behind a desk, collecting a sizeable paycheck, and complaining about how bad things are! Wake up Douglas! We need to "light a fire" under our leaders comfortable chairs, to get them to stand up and DO SOMETHING! Was it Will Rogers that said" Its better to do the wrong thing, vigorously, than to do nothing at all" "

" Great idea Hector. The BDI Airport needs to be recognized as a valuable asset for Douglas. The municipal airport will never be what BDI is. The city can pour money into this little airport and still not make it into what BDI is already. Also with all of the homes around the area it's only a matter of time before a plane crashes into the neighborhood. "

" All of Cochise County and cities in the county should work in concert to bring the controversial F35 Fighter plane to Bisbee Douglas Int'l airport and have it based there. Tucson and other cities have said the plane is too noisy, but Douglas would be perfect. The airport is far enough away from town to where Douglas would not be affected by the noise level, and close enough to provide housing/shopping for the airmen/pilots. The existing runways at B/D Airport are long enough to handle any big planes/jets. Resurfacing could be done to bring up the runways to standards, and the Feds could build administration buildings, plane hangars, etc. and maybe even base housing. All the Cochise County cities/towns, and the Cochise County Board of Supervisors should make a concentrated effort to make it happen. Everyone would benefit from this. Another plus is that there are two highways close by ( 80 and 191) that the Air Force could use to transport/receive supplies, parts, etc. "
