DOUGLAS, Arizona — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they apprehended a 20-year-old man trying to smuggle crystal meth into the United States by concealing the crystal meth in the quarter panels of the vehicle he was driving.

On May 3rd at a about 10:30 p.m. CBP officers were screening traffic coming from Mexico. The officers selected a 1997 Ford Thunderbird being driven by a 20-year-old man from Douglas, Arizona for further inspection. With the assistance of a special trained K-9 team and high-tech tools, the CBP officers discovered that the quarter panels of the Thunderbird were loaded with packages of crystal meth. CBP Officers seized the vehicle and the crystal meth. The man was turned over to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation and prosecution.

A criminal complaint is simply the method by which a person is charged with criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
