There is a new attorney in town.

Natalie Lakosil/Douglas Dispatch Edward Matchett Attorney at Law is now located at 1052 N. G Avenue, next to the Gadsden Hotel.

Edward Matchett, attorney at law, has opened at 1052 N. G Avenue next to the Gadsden Hotel. He offers services as a defense attorney in civil and criminal cases and trials.

Matchett’s law office opened three weeks ago and is new to Douglas, but he is not. He has been representing people from Douglas for years and realized it was time to open an office.

He also has an office in Bisbee that is still open, which has been his location for the last 25 years working as an attorney. Matchett was the City Attorney in Douglas for three years in the 1990s.

“Being City Attorney has helped me understand the issues of the community,” Matchett said. “Almost everyone has had or will encounter some type of civil or criminal issue and I like making a difference in people’s lives, that is why I am an attorney.”

He is barred in both Arizona and Wisconsin, where he is originally from and attended college at. He then went on to attend Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. for law school.

Matchett moved to Ariz. in 1984 and has been practicing here since 1985. He specializes and works with cases in family law, custody cases, divorce, elderly law, wills, immigration laws, employment civil rights and discrimination in the work place.

Matchett has also taught law and political science classes at Cochise College as well as helped to develop an aviation law course for the college.

The office hours for Matchett Law are Monday through Friday 8 to 4:30 but he is also available to meet at other times with an appointment. He will make home visits if necessary under certain circumstances. For questions call 364-3844.
