The decision was made at a Douglas Unified School District Governing Board special meeting on July 6.
The board also received a letter of retirement from support staff Rosie Rubalcava, who worked with the school district for almost 18 years. She hopes to retire by August 1.
The board accepted a revision of job descriptions for the support staff positions of executive secretary and SAIS/SIS specialist. Executive secretary is renamed to executive assistant/central administration office manager. SAIS/SIS specialist is renamed to SAIS/SIS specialist/new student center supervisor.
There is no salary change at this time but changes to duties and additions were made to job descriptions. Approval for authorized signatures for district banking accounts at Wells Fargo bank was made.
Approval on proposed bond contingency project list. Discussion/action on revision to employment contract for Assistant Superintendent Bonnie Lopez to extend for two years was on the list but was removed without discussion during the meeting.
Douglas resident, Michael Nava, made a public comment to the board discussing diabetes and obesity among children and the role physical education plays in schools. Nava asked the board to reverse its elimination of the elementary physical education program and offered suggestions for budget cuts elsewhere.
